Luxuriously reupholstered in rich champagne tone Brazilian cowhides, this 1930s lounge chair designed by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller – Easy Chair model number 3950 – was featured in photos in Chicago’s Herman Miller Showroom as early as 1939. Expertly reupholstered, the seat back features a lavish winter hide, distinctively longer and cozy. A shorter hide was selected for the seat and outer surfaces of the lounge chair for contrast. The Brazilian cowhides are high grade, soft but durable. Another layer of detail, cowhide piping adds interest and texture to the beautiful design. The reupholstery is in keeping with Gilbert Rohde’s vision and style; vintage photos reveal he selected similar hides and furs for pieces he designed and produced. This uncommon model scarcely available today and done in luxurious hides is truly one-of-a-kind.
